Coinbase CEO asks community to support pro-crypto politicians

The Chief Executive Officer of Coinbase, Brian Armstrong, has called on the crypto community to back politicians who are in favor of cryptocurrencies. Armstrong believes that the support of such politicians will help to further the cause of digital currencies and blockchain technology. He also believes that it is important to have a voice in the political arena in order to ensure that the industry is not hindered by regulations that could stifle innovation. Armstrong has urged the crypto community to get involved in the political process and to support those who are pro-crypto.

For sure, however, which ones are true crypto supporters and which ones are simply “passing bills” for publicity’s sake?

padizzledonk

I’m all for it but it’s low on my list of voting priorities right now I’m gonna be honest.

TwinWake

It’s a shame that politicians are just puppets.

QuickAltTab

Crypto is very low priority on my list of policies with which I judge candidates. Find me two politicians who align on progressive taxation, pro-choice, voting rights, separation of church and state, climate change, social security, education, and healthcare reform, but disagree on crypto. Then maybe their crypto position will factor in.

SimbaTheWeasel

You want us to support Ted Cruz? Idk how to feel about the idea of voting for the zodiac killer

Bringerofsalvation

No shit Sherlock moment. A CEO wants politicians with policies that favour his interests? Shocking.

KegelsForYourHealth

This kind of single issue bullshit is dangerous. We don’t live in a single issue world. Crypto is not the most important thing.

MasterLogic

Should vote for people who have good policies as a whole, not just pro crypto.

You don’t want to vote in Hitler just because he likes digital currency.

Don’t vote blindly.

SenseiRaheem

Can Coinbase CEO lobby me with the $$$ that he lobbies Congress with? That will definitely encourage me!

TheWillowTreeBreeze

Gondor calls for aid. And Rohan will answer.

DeeperBags

*Everyone agrees in this comment section then skips voting entirely*

yuruseiii

These are the pro-crypto politicians, according to Coindesk: https://www.coindesk.com/consensus-magazine/2023/01/25/crypto-policy-regulation-us-congress/

1. Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minnesota)
2. Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-New York)
3. Rep. French Hill (R-Arkansas)
4. Rep. Ro Khanna (D-California)
5. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas)
6. Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio)
7. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-New York)
8. Rep. Patrick McHenry, (R-North Carolina)
9. Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R, Wyoming)

I recommend clicking through the link or searching the article (The Bizarre (Sort of) Bipartisanship of the Crypto Congress) to read about their credentials.

Of course I also question their agenda; politicians rarely do anything if it doesn’t benefit them or their pals.

Cheesebaron

“Please do the lobbying for us!”

I do support pro-crypto politicians but not because I like centralized exchanges.

Intfamous

In other news; water is wet

IAmTheLostBoy

Crypto will always continue to develop, what the CEO meant was “support pro crypto politicians to save my company”. Nothing will stop crypto, just be a speed bump.

Edit: wording

Fachuro

Does he want me to vote for Santa and the Easter Bunny too?

Harucifer

Usually pro-crypto politicians are just anti-establishment morons who lack the critical awareness to realize we need a working establishment for a better society. So, no.

ChechoMontigo

I’d love to, but some of them have policies contrary to my values on other issues that feel way more important

DarthLysergis

If you are asking me to support Ted Cruz in any way other than supporting him….over the railing of a tall bridge, that’s a big pass.

I’d let crypto die before supporting republicans.

TERE_MOTOS

Conbaise CEO may want to start by making sure all open service tickets on coinbase complaint department are resolved within 48hrs with a max of seven days top.

RedPhaedrus5

In the grand scheme of all of the things I would choose a politician for, unfortunately Crypto policy is not high on the list. I feel like many pols pushing crypto legislation tend to not be folks I would agree with otherwise.

neitze

Encourage everyone to follow Tom Emmer, House Rep, regardless of political leanings. Never considered myself a Republican but he does seem to be a voice of reason among elected officials.

Mikkelet

If only those politicians were not also pro life, anti LGBT, anti woke, etc

No thanks, I’ll take human rights over crypto any day

H__Dresden

That will put us with ass hat Republicans. They will further fuck up the country. Fuck that!!!!

beerbaron105

Still rekt on my coinbase stock lol

sjshady0169

DeSantis has already said he is against CBDC’s. I think there are at least a few others.

2bridgesprod

Serious gensler and croni… err crew gonna push me to root for DeSantis

Meltsomeice

Thank you Capitan Obvious.

Powerisours

There is none in my state 🙁

marekt14

Me as a European: You go get ’em champs!

bkcrypt0

And that’s how change happens, at least in the US

coinfeeds-bot

tldr; Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has called on the crypto community to support pro-crypto candidates in the next US elections. He accused the SEC of being hostile towards crypto innovation and creating an “unhealthy regulatory climate” for the industry. Armstrong’s call for action reflects a growing sentiment among crypto supporters that the SEC and other financial regulators in the US do not support crypto innovation.

robeewankenobee

This is actually a scary real advice … if the masses start to vote pro crypto politicians, the rest of the opposition will have to pick up the trend because Voters have only 1 value, to cast their vote to Them, irelevant of the reason.

illcrx

We definitely should back pro-crypto politicians! As long as they aren’t dumb.

Stinkpretzel

I’m in! Gary ‘cunt troll’ Giz has gone off the rails because they are going to lose Ripple case. The crypto community has tentacles everywhere and if the US wants to play the ‘game’ it lobby time.

…and don’t forget meme apes have been fighting this fight before the SEC decided to shit all over blockchain.

Oil and water can mix is stirred vigorously enough

Dense_Outcome_7684

When you need support from exchanges they just tell you to fuck off.

Now I tell them to fuck off.

HamiChan

Nahhhhh

ShinAlastor

Where are those ones ?

CryptoDogs

Makes sense. They are a crypto based business, they would want pro crypto politicians to pave the way

Gamejudge

I don’t think we have any of those. Can we instead change the entire us system and implement some actual means of transparency for voting and taxes. But that would be too hard, what kind of tech could even do that😑

ResponsibleCut720

Bold move! Hopefully the people can turn up with a tiny bit of the enthusiasm the French people have shown in the past week or two!

Prize-Reference9329

In principle we agree

baconcheeseburgarian

I thought Brian wanted everyone to be apolitical.

OK_Renegade

Its going to be quite an interesting battle

xero_peace

Yeah, no shit. We need more technically savvy and younger politicians at the same time.

Aggressive_Parking88

This is going to be incredibly important in the US. We can’t have politicians that don’t understand Block-Chain trying to regulate Crypto.

seamonkey420

yea Im pro crypto but most politicians who say they are pro crypto hold views/stances I do not support outside of crypto. def am not a single issue voter. so 🤷
