Going forward, you can use your Chromebook until it breaks under your fingers.
No Chromebook is making it to 10 years.
Installed chrome os flex on my Chromebook after removing the write protect screw.
Fuck Google claiming that it can’t handle it because it clearly can (and does)
It’s good that they are expanding the lifespan of support but schools really shouldn’t keep the same device around for 10 years. Tech moves way too fast for that.
Not to mention Chromebooks are at a lower price point, anyways.
My rule of thumb has always been upgrading every 5 years but I digress.
Wait they can just do that?
sales tanking?
Why, of all things, is *this* what Google decides should live? No offense to the Chromebook, just don’t really see the need when netbooks cost the same and have more utility.
*software life-cycle
To assume these things will survive 10 years of children in the classroom is another story.
I’m glad to hear they aren’t selling time bombs in their laptops anymore though.
Just remember that’s ten years of software from when Google certifies the product not from when you purchase it. If the model has been out for a few years already then that lifespan is less than ten years.
Now that school districts have wasted millions of dollars on upgrading them every 4 years?
Ok…
