Is there a wife key, my wife is hiding something from me.

need to open her heart and find out.

vidati

Thanks. Although this is helpful, it’s still difficult for beginners to understand, and as a result, they might never join or invest. But still, good stuff.

Tasigur1

Thanks for the diagram, now I get it 😊

liveaskings

Always keep your keys safe… Crypto, car, house, all of them

HighBuyGuy

This a good handy chart! Nice work!

Comicaz3

This is all the **key** to having a successful crypto journey.

I’ll let myself out ✌🏽

adamdmn

Loved the phone notes-made diagram ahah, still really clear thanks 🙂

BitVibe

No man it doesn’t seem cool to me as I’m a fuckn slow learner

ieatmoondust

More keys than signs, and those are everywhere.

noob_zarathustra

I can have unlimited wallets/addresses associated with just one seed phrase?

OutTop

Very complex

Maxx3141

Another great thing is the Master Public Key (xPub). This can be used to derive all your public keys (and therefore addresses), but has no critical information stored to reconstruct any of your private keys or seed phrase.

What this can be used for? Creating a watch-only wallet of your cold wallet for example, that can see all your existing and future addresses you could generate from this wallet, while the wallet remains cold, you don’t even need to connect it if you saved the xPub once.

And then there are hardened addresses that can’t be generated from the xPub key – but let’s not make things too complicated for today. Not many wallets use the hardened addresses as far as I know.

Thank you ChatGPT , very complex summary via the flow diagram.

The only thing you need to remember with keys is that you keep them secret and don’t share it with anyone, not even your wife as she could post a selfie

I need one key

One key to rule them all

Titozar13

But it’s really important to say Not Your Keys, Not Your Coins. Also, you can say that with a Car, or a House.

astockstonk

Nacho keys nacho crypto

ImaFreemason

Nice write up.

FroPatrol

Depends on your wallet type on some of those too. But the key, keys are Seed (secret words), private key (password) and public key (letterbox)

POVTips

Cryptographic key is a thing too.

Frogmangy

Can i use a google tile to help find my lost keys?

SeminolesRenegade

Now I want key lime pie 🥧

ThisIsRickiculous

I really enjoy learning about the new stuff about Crypto, so thank you for this 😎🤘

UltraHyperDonkeyDick

Sorry to be “that guy”, but… The number of private / public keys is not unlimited. While a 256bit integer is huge, it isn’t unlimited.

Other than that hair splitting, your summary is a good start for beginners.

I will let myself out.

Edit: Good job leveling up. Perhaps the next steps would be to look into how keys are derived (ed25519, secp256k1, etc…) between chains and also the effect of derivation paths on public key / account key / public address and how collisions between chains are avoided.

novsush

My room is locked I need a key. You have 3 keys right?

BirdSetFree

How would you generate other keys from a single seed phrase?

You forgot to mention the **derivation paths** to the keys and addresses from a seed phrase:
https://medium.com/mycrypto/wtf-is-a-derivation-path-c3493ca2eb52

Depending on the cryptocurrency and wallet implementation (metamask, coinspace, etc.) you might get different wallet addresses from the same seed phrase.

This definitely confused me in the beginning, as I thought that there is only a single derivation path in ethereum. But it’s not.

It’s such a shame not a lot of people are willing to learn about crypto and just want quick money. The technology is so fun.
