I asked for my btc and he said he’ll need to hold onto it for “liquidity purposes”, which makes total sense to me!

People on these platform don’t “have x bitcoins”, they have an IOU from the platform. These platforms literally account for your deposits as a liabilities in their books… it should tell you what will happen when (not if) they go under.
Take custody of your bitcoins, exercise self-sovereignty over your money, that’s what Bitcoin enables unlike most other assets.
